“When I see people from all faiths coming to my house and eating, drinking and talking freely together I feel immensely proud. This type of integration is exactly what is needed in the world today. If more religious people would discuss their respective scriptures with other groups, there wouldn’t be so much misconception and conflict.

Our charity has over 3000 members from all different faiths and we have never had any trouble at our weekly support sessions. Every Sunday people come together, sharing their problems with us and expressing their faith. We provide them with spiritual guidance and practical help, with doctors, legal and immigration experts offering their services for free.

I believe Britain’s fragmented society needs more of this type of integrated communication. If we had a centre like ours in every town, uniting different religions, there would be a greater understanding of all the different faiths. Organising such meetings wouldn’t be easy and there would be lots of opposition from certain religious leaders. In theory, however, we need something like this to heal the country’s fractured communities.”
